Registration for The Nature of Narrative: A Writing Retreat is LIVE!

The etymology of the word narrative is from Latin gnarus ‘knowing’ . In other words, the stories we tell and the narratives we write are really about two things:

  • Discovering our deepest knowings, the erudition that lives in our flesh; and

  • Connecting the dots of those knowings to form a chain of wisdom that can help guide us through our past, present and future at once.

Join me for a long weekend of paper and ink, of deep creativity, of restoring communion and refreshing community. Details below:

    • to help you wade deeper into your work—  fostering fresh ideas, experimenting with new prompts, stitching yourself into the fabric of routines, rituals and practices that will strengthen and support you and your work;

    • to invite your whole self to the page— a lot of writing comes from the cognitive body. Our goal at this retreat is to invite our physical, emotional, energetic/spiritual self to join our intellectual ideas on the page, to generate multi-layered work, to move from one-dimensional language to multi-dimensional writing, to use everything available to us. A.K.A. to pull knowing forward using our mother tongue; and

    • to nurture a relationship with creativity that comes with an inherent sense of belonging— to understand and feel into the idea that when you are working co-creatively with creativity you are truly never alone.

  • Early-evening workshops led by Steph— intended for the group to share work and delve through what’s come up on the page and/or within the bodies of the artists themselves;

  • Free time to write, read by the fire and/or sink into the bounty of inspiration found in one of the most rugged coastlines of the Pacific Northwest;

  • An intensely intentional weekend designed for you to sit more comfortably in the overlapping space of personal work and creative work; and

  • Top secret bonuses and gifts straight from Steph's heart.

DEAR WRITER,

Yes, you.

I want you to know that this retreat has been designed for writers of all levels including those who don’t yet call themselves a writer.

While the focus will be on exploring and strengthening personal narrative writing (including: personal essays, memoir writing, newsletter and blog writing, journaling, social media captioning, etc.), writing in all genres is welcome.

It’s possible that you may generate publishable work during this retreat, that said, the purpose is to help you sink into a writing practice that serves your humanity. The aim is to use writing as a tool to help you know yourself in a deeper and more profound way, allowing you to connect the dots of your own evolution and understand the story(s) of your life in a way that helps you expand.

We are aiming for writing that serves as evidence of our aliveness and flourishing. We are aiming for aliveness and flourishing that serves as evident in our writing.

Testimonials:

The most nurturing creative environment I’ve ever worked in.
— K.O.
What a gift it is to retreat away into nature, weaving a narrative with beautiful souls, and to be held by the madronas, inviting you to shed, release and reclaim what you’ve already, always known.
— Katie K.
Steph doesn’t take this work lightly, she embodies it. She encourages and supports. She asks questions that help dig through the layers of the story. She has helped me uncover the treasures of the past that deserve to be shared. She has helped to archive the parts of the work that have gotten me there but may not serve the reader. She is a wise, thoughtful story guide. She is a loving, creative woman.
— Sandra O.
